VGP Sampling — Vessel General Permit compliance

What is the VGP?

The US EPA Vessel General Permit (VGP) regulates incidental discharges from commercial vessels of 79 ft and over operating in US waters — including ballast water, bilge water, graywater and exhaust gas scrubber washwater. Vessels covered by the permit must carry out routine sampling and analytical monitoring of these discharges and keep the results on board for inspection.

The VGP is being replaced by the Vessel Incidental Discharge Act (VIDA): the US EPA has published the new national discharge standards, and the 2013 VGP requirements remain in force until the US Coast Guard's implementing regulations take effect. We keep track of the transition so our clients stay compliant on both sides of it.
